Parent Meeting follow up

Thank you to those of you who were able to attend the parent meeting last week for our upcoming trip. We discussed some important logistics and filled out the required pre-departure paperwork. Some things to keep in mind:

1. If you have not turned them in already, please complete the four Denver Academy "Experiential" Forms (attached in e-mail):

- General Permission Form
- Medication release form
- Drug, Alcohol & Tobacco Policy
- Allergy Information

2. Please follow the instructions on the blog to obtain your own Cambodian Visa. Once processed, please forward us a copy and print 2-3 copies for your student. One copy can be stapled directly into the passport.

3. Please fill out the Vietnam Visa Form (attached in e-mail) and use Mr. Brookhart's form as your guide/example (also attached in e-mail). Place this visa form in an envelope with $50 cash. We will need this once we arrive in Vietnam and would rather not have to deal with it in our sleep-deprived delirium!

4. Emergency contact numbers and hotel contact information are on separate tab on right.

5. Please be sure that each student has 2-3 hard copies of a passport photo - one of them will be used on the Vietnam Visa Form. The rest can be placed into their neck wallet with copies of their passport and Cambodian visa. It's always a good rule of thumb to travel with plenty of copies of things.

6. Students, our meeting tomorrow is cancelled due to the faculty/student softball game after school. Please plan on meeting next Wednesday, May 25th as planned.

As always, check the blog for any and all questions!

Take care,

PARENT MEETING

Good evening summer travelers and families,
This is a reminder about our upcoming mandatory parent meeting this May 12th at 4:30pm in Mustang Hall. Students are strongly encouraged to attend. A few important things to note:
- Will be distributing all paperwork at the meeting. If you'd like to complete it before you leave the meeting, please be sure to have your student's medication and doctor's info, as well as their insurance information with you.
- Please bring an iPad or laptop if you'd like to purchase the Cambodian travel visa together at the meeting; we will be modeling the process by purchasing Mrs. Magoon's on the Smartboard.
- If you plan to apply for the Cambodian travel visa as described above, you will need an electronic copy of a 2x2 passport photo.
- We will be completing paperwork for the Vietnam travel visa for which you will need a hard copy of a 2x2 passport photo.

Please don't panic! If you are unable to obtain a passport photo before Thursday, you will at least be able to see the process and understand how to complete it on your own. We will go over all of this at the meeting.
Students, we still have our regularly scheduled meetings every Wednesday after school. Don't forget to prepare your short presentation for the group (check the blog and previous emails for details.)

We look forward to seeing you Thursday; please be in touch with any questions. And keep checking the blog!

STUDENT MEETING 5/4

Student Meeting 5/4:
This afternoon we spent some time exploring a map of Southeast Asia and plotting our itinerary. It was fun using the "street view" to get a better sense of what our surroundings will be!
We watched a couple of informative videos on the cultures of Vietnam and Cambodia, and began our discussion about the atrocities that occurred during the Khmer Rouge. To further help us understand the significance of this event, our 10th grade traveler, Trey Neagle, and his family graciously purchased a set of books for the group to read prior to our trip. First They Killed My Father is a memoir written by Loung Ung, a survivor of Pol Pot's regime. We would like students to read the book before our departure. A huge thank you to the Neagle family!

Our next student meeting will be next Wednesday, May 11th from 3:20-4:00. Students, please remember to prepare a 5-minute presentation to the group to teach us about your topic.
